Bais Yaakov

(Hebrew House of Jacob) - a system of school s for girls from Orthodox Jewish circles. Bais Yaakov first schoo l was established in Krakow in 1917 on the initiative of Sarah Sz enirer. The aim was to spread education among women with no relig ious yet organized education. Szenirer won the support of women with significant Orthodox homes. The first disciples were the daughters of Sarah Szenirer clients who had been seamstress. The school taught religious subjects (Tor, halakhically) and taught practical preparation for life.
